Unfortunately, Pennsylvania German Red Bush Lima Beans are unavailable for the 2024 season
Seeds are produced in partnership with The Landis Valley Heirloom Seed Project.
About- Very little is known about this heirloom variety's exact origins! It is believed to originate from a Lancaster County, Pennsylvania minister's heirloom seed collection. Regardless of its origins, this bush lima bean will add a striking burst of color to any dish. Traditionally used in a Pa. Dutch Amish pickled relish called chow-chow. Plants produce burgundy beans with black splotches.
Planting- Plant in full sun when soil temperatures are consistently above 65°F.
Care & Harvest- Grows best in soils with a pH between 6 and 7 and light fertilization. Do not over-fertilize as this will cause an overgrowth of foliage and not allow pods to form. Allow pods to fully dry on the plant. Once dry remove beans from pods and store in a dry location for use later.
